Khao Nom or Khanom in the past was made by mixing rice flour with sugar. Later, coconut was added an ingredient. Traditional Thai sweets in those day consisted of flour, sugar, and coconut.
The use of the three ingredients began in the Sukhothai Period and the Ayutthaya Period. in Ayutthaya Period, there was an area called Yan Pa Khanom within the city walls. The area was a market for sweet. There was only a few kinds of sweets, such as Khanom Chamot, Khanom Kong Kwian, Khanom Phim Thua, and Khanom Sampani.
