นับตั้งแต่ที่มีการคิดค้นการถ่ายภาพจนปรากฏภาพถ่ายแรกของโลกที่เรารู้จักและมีหลักฐาน 
มาถึงวันนี้ในปี ค.ศ. 1825 หรือเกือบ 200 ปีมาแล้ว กล้องถ่ายภาพมี วิวัฒนาการเปลี่ยนแปลงมา
อย่างช้าๆ เริ่มจากกล้องสำหรับผู้ใช้ทั่วๆไปตัวแรกของโลก คือ Daguerrotype
ในปี ค.ศ. 1839 จำหน่ายในราคาประมาณ 50 ดอลล่าร์สหรัฐ ปี 1992 โกดัก เปิดตัวกล้องดิจิตอล SLR ใหม่อีกครั้งใน Photokina โดยใช้บอดี้
โดยมีฐานบอดี้ที่สูงขึ้นมาก มีให้เลือก 2 รุ่น คือ DCS 200C ถ่ายภาพสีและ DCS 200M ถ่ายภาพขาวดำ ความละเอียด
1.54 ล้านพิกเซล ใช้ได้กับเลนส์และแฟลชของ Nikon แต่ต้องคูณทางยาวโฟกัสเพิ่มเนื่องจาก CCD มีขนาดเล็กมาก 
หากใช้เลนส์ 28 มม.จะเทียบเท่ากับเลนส์ 80 มม.ของกล้อง 35 มม. ความไวแสง ISO 50-400 สำหรับภาพสีและ
ISO 100-800 สำหรับกล้องขาวดำปี 1995 โกดักได้ปลุกกระแสทางด้านภาพดิจิตอลครั้งใหญ่ โดยการนำเอา
เทคโนโลยีใหม่ของโกดักที่เรียกว่า โฟโต้ซีดี เพียงส่งฟิล์มเนกาตีฟสีหรือฟิล์มสไลด์สี
ไปสแกนลงแผ่นซีดีรอม ก็จะได้ภาพดิจิตอลสำหรับนำมาใช้งานทันที ซึ่งในปีเดียวกันนิตยสารชัตเตอร์ฯ ก็ได้ตีพิมพ์บทความเกี่ยวกับ โฟโต้ซีดี ด้วยการนำ
