Past Perfect Tense

โครงสร้าง  S + had + V3
รูปประโยคของ Past Perfect Tense นี้ ไม่ว่าประธานจะเป็นเอกพจน์หรือพหูพจน์จะต้อง ใช้กริยาช่วย had กับกริยาช่องที่ 3 เสมอ เช่น

I , He , She, Jim	had	gone out before John came. finished reading when Bill came in. left when Helen reached home.
You , We , They, Tom and Mary

หลักการใช้
      1. ใช้กับเหตุการณ์ 2 เหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้น และสิ้นสุดลงแล้วในอดีต เหตุการณ์หนึ่งเกิด ขึ้นก่อนอีกเหตุการณ์หนึ่ง
              เหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นก่อน ใช้ Past Perfect
              เหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นหลัง ใช้ Past Simple
              และมักจะเชื่อมด้วยคำว่า when , before , after , until , as soon as เช่น He had written to her four times when he got her reply. (ใช้ past perfect เพื่อให้เห็นว่าเขาเขียนถึงเธอ 4 ครั้ง ก่อนที่เขาได้รับคำตอบจากเธอ)

       2. ใช้กับคำว่า by the time
            By the time + Past simple , Past Perfect
                 - By the time the sun set , we had left school.
                 - By the time the children went to bed , they had already finished their homework.
