ประกอบด้วยเฟิร์นแท้ และกลุ่มใกล้เคียงเฟิร์น  พืชกลุ่มนี้มีราก   ลำต้นและ

ใบที่แท้จริง  ภายในรากมีเนื้อเยื่อลำเลียงเหมือนที่พบในลำต้น 

มีต้นแกมีโทไฟต์และต้นสปอร์โรไฟต์เจริญแยกกัน หรืออยู่รวมกันในช่วงสั้นๆ

     โดยต้นแกมีโทไฟต์จะมีวงชีวิตสั้นกว่าสปอร์โรไฟต์
