ทําหน้าที่ในการรับข้อมูลหรือคําสั่งจากภายนอกเข้าไปเก็บไว้ในหน่วยความจํา เพื่อเตรียมประมวลผล
ข้อมูลที่ต้องการ ซึ่งอุปกรณ์ที่ใช้ในการนําข้อมูลที่ใช้กันอยู่ตั้งแต่อดีตจนถึงปัจจุบันนั้น
ทําหน้าที่ในการคํานวณและประมวลผล แบ่งออกเป็น 2 หน่วยย่อย คือ
- หน่วยควบคุม ทําหน้าที่ในการดูแล ควบคุมลําดับขั้นตอนของการประมวลผล และการทํางาน
ของอุปกรณ์ต่างๆ ภายในหน่วยประมวลผลกลาง และช่วยประสานงานระหว่างหน่วยประมวลผลกลาง กับ
อุปกรณ์นําเข้าข้อมูล อุปกรณ์ในการแสดงผล และหน่วยความจําสํารอง
- หน่วยคํานวณและตรรก ทําหน้าที่ในการคํานวณและเปรียบเทียบข้อมูลต่างๆ ที่ส่งมาจาก
หน่วยควบคุม และหน่วยความจํา
ทําหน้าที่ในการเก็บข้อมูลหรือคําสั่งต่างๆ ที่รับจากภายนอกเข้ามาเก็บไว้ เพื่อประมวลผลและยัง
เก็บผลที่ได้จากการประมวลผลไว้เพื่อแสดงผลอีกด้วย
ทําหน้าที่ในการแสดงผลลัทธ์ที่ได้หลังจากการคํานวณและประมวลผล
เคส (Case)
อุปกรณ์คอมพิวเตอร์ทุกชิ้นจะไร้ค่าทันที ถ้าหากไม่มีกระแสไฟฟ้า พาวเวอร์ซัพพลายจะทำหน้าที่ในการจ่ายกระแสไฟฟ้า ให้กับชิ้นส่วนคอมพิวเตอร์ เพื่อให้เครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์สามารถทำงานได้ หากเครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์คุณมีอุปกรณ์ต่อพ่วงเยอะ เช่น ฮาร์ดดิสก์ ซีดีรอมไดรฟ์ ดีวีดีไดรฟ์ก็ควรเลือกพาวเวอร์ซัพพลายที่มีจำนวนวัตต์สูง เช่น 450 วัตต์ เพื่อให้สามารถ จ่ายกระแสไฟได้เพียงพอ
แผงวงจรหลัก หรือเมนบอร์ด (Mainboard) ทำหน้าที่เป็นจุดเชื่อมอุปกรณ์ต่าง ๆ เข้าด้วยกัน เช่น ฮาร์ดดิสก์ ฟล็อปปี้ดิสก์
หน่วยความจำ หน่วยประมวลผลกลาง เป็นต้น
เป็นคอนเน็คเตอร์ที่ใช้สำหรับเชื่อมต่อสายแพกับฮาร์ดดิสก์แบบ IDE รวมถึงอุปกรณ์จำพวกไดรฟ์อ่านเขียนข้อมูล เช่น ซีดีรอม ดีวีดี ซิฟไดรฟ์ โดยเมนบอร์ดจะมีคอนเน็คเตอร์ IDE อยู่สองชุดด้วยกัน เรียกว่า IDE 1 กับ IDE 2 แต่ละคอนเน็คเตอร์ จะรองรับอุปกรณ์ได้สองชิ้น ซึ่งหมายถึงว่าคุณจะต่อฮาร์ดดิสก์รวมทั้งซีดีรอมได้สูงสุดแค่สี่ชิ้น ซึ่งอาจจะเป็นฮาร์ดิสก์ สองตัวกับไดรฟ์ CD-RW และไดรฟ์ DVD อีกอย่างละหนึ่ง เช่นเดียวกันกับ FDD Connector ก็คือจะมีตัวอักษรพิมพ์กำกับว่าด้านใดคือ PIN 1 เพื่อให้ต่อสายแพเข้าไปอย่างถูกต้อง แต่ IDE Connector จะมีจำนวนพินมากกว่าคือ 39 พิน (ในรูปคือที่เห็นเป็นสีแดงกับสีขาว)
ฮาร์ดดิสก์ (Hard Disk) เป็นอุปกรณ์เก็บข้อมูลและโปรแกรม ภายในจะมีข้อมูลและโปรแกรมต่างๆ บรรจุอยู่

เครื่องขับคอมแพคดิสก์ หรือซีดีรอม (CD-ROM) เป็นอุปกรณ์ที่ใช้อ่านข้อมูล บนแผ่นซีดี มีความสามารถเก็บข้อมูลได้เป็นจำนวนมาก

แรม (RAM) เป็นอุปกรณ์ที่เก็บข้อมูลและโปแกรมขณะที่คอมพิวเตอร์ทำการประมวลผล

หน่วยประมวลผลกลาง หรือ CPU (Central Processing Unit) เป็นอุปกรณ์ที่ทำหน้าที่ควบคุมการทำงานของเครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์ และทำกรประมวลผลข้อมูล

แป้นพิมพ์ หรือ คีย์บอร์ด เป็นอุปกรณ์ทำหน้าที่รับข้อมูลเข้าสู่เครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์
