เพกาซัส (Pegasus)

     เป็นสัตว์ในเทพนิยายกรีก เป็นม้าร่างกำยำพ่วงพี พร้อมด้วยปีกอันกว้างสง่างาม   เพกาซัสเกิดมาจากนางกอร์กอน เมดูซ่า ถูกวีรบุรุษเพอร์ซีอุสฟันคอขาดตาย ในขณะที่นางสิ้นใจตายนั้น เพกาซัสก็กระโจนออกมาจากลำคอของนาง ไม่มีใครสามารถปราบเพกาซัสได้เลยซักคน ตอนที่มันเกิดมาใหม่ ๆ และออกวิ่งอย่างคึกคะนองนั้น น้ำที่กระเซ็นจากรอยเท้าที่มันวิ่งก่อให้เกิดน้ำพุสวยงามที่กวีและศิลปินชื่นชมกันนักหนา คือน้ำพุฮิปโปครีนี (Hippocrene) ที่เป็นที่รู้จักกันในวรรณคดกรีกโบราณ ว่ากันว่าใครได้ดื่มน้ำพุนี้แล้ว โอกาสที่จะเป็นกวีเอกอยู่แค่เอื้อมทีเดียว

     เพกาซัสโดนปราบโดยเด็กหนุ่มรูปงามชาวเมืองโครินทร์มีนามว่า "เบลเลอโรฟอน" (Bellerophon) เบลเลอโรฟอนเป็นโอรสของเจ้าเมืองโครินทร์ที่มีนามว่า พระเจ้ากลอคุส (Glaucus)
