โดยทำถนนไว้ใช้ในการดำเนินการปลูกป่า เพื่อเป้นแนวทางตรวจการ และแนวกันไฟไปด้วย ถนนควรกว้างอย่างน้อย 4 เมตร และไม่มีความลาดชันมากนัก กรณีที่ปลูกป่าผืยใหญ่ถนนจะแบ่งพื้นที่ปลูกเป็นตอน ๆ ถ้ากล้าไม้อยู่ใน เรือนเพาะชำหลังคาเปิดก็เกิดให้กล้าไม้ได้รับแสงเต็มที่ตลอดวันเป็นเวลา 1 สัปดาห์ก่อนนำไปปลูก แต่ถ้ากล้าไม้อยู่ในเรือนเพาะชำปิดต้องย้ายกล้าไม้ออกมาที่กลางแจ้ง แล้วรดน้ำวันละครั้ง2-3 วัน โดยเฉพาะการขนส่งและการปลูก จากการทดลองปลูกไม้ประดู่ด้วยเหง้า ปรากฎว่าได้ผลดี มีอัตราการรอดตายอยู่ในเกณฑ์น่าพอใจ แม้ว่าจะต่ำกว่าการปลูกด้วยกล้า ส่วนการเติบโตไม่แตกต่างกันแต่อย่างใด การเตรียมเหง้าประดู่ คือการเตรียมดิน ยกแปลงเพื่อเพาะเมล็ดแล้วย้ายกล้าที่เพาะลงในแปลที่เตรียมไว้ ระยะห่างระหว่างกล้าที่ชำ 10 x 10 ซม. การบำรุงรักษาแปลงมีการรดน้ำถอนวัชพืช พ่นยาฆ่าแมลงตามความจำเป็น เมื่อกล้าไม้มีอายุประมาณ 1ปี จึงถอนมาตัดแต่งให้ความยาวของส่วนเหนือคอรากประมาณ 2.5 ซม. ริดรากแขนงออกให้หมด ขนาดเหง้าที่เหมาะสมควรมีเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลางประมาณ 0.6-1.2 ซม. ขนาดเหง้าที่ใหญ่กว่าไม่ทำให้มีอัตรารอดตายหรือเติบโตสูงขึ้น คล้ายวิธีการปลูกด้วยเหง้านอกจากจะลดค่าใช้จ่าย ในแต่ละขั้นตอนการปลูกแล้วกล้าเปลือยรากจะมีน้ำหนักเบาและใช้คนเดียวขนกล้าไปปลูกได้การเตรียมกล้าเปลือยราก จะเพาะเมล็ดในแปลงกลางแจ้ง และย้ายชำลงแปลงให้ต้นห่างกัน 15 เซนติเมตร ทำการตัดรากอย่างสม่ำเสมอเพื่อให้กล้ามีระบบรากสมบูรณ์ เมื่อกล้าไม้ มีอายุ 7 - 8 เดือนก็ถอนไปปลูกได้ การเตรียมอีกวิธีหนึ่งจะเลี้ยงกล้าในถุง เมื่ออายุ 7 - 8 เดือน ก็เอาดินในถุงออก และควรจะทำในวันเดียวกันการนำไปปลูกจะให้อัตราการรอดตายสูง และอัตราการเจริญเติบโตไม่ต่างจากกล้าถุงดินปลูก ข้อสำคัญของการปลูกวิธีนี้จะต้องมีการจัดการพัฒนาระบบรากกล้าไม้ให้ดีและมีขนาดความโต และความสูงของต้นที่เหมาะสม6. การปลูกไม้ประดู่ในฤดูแล้ง มีประโยชน์ในการขยายช่วงเวลาให้กล้าได้ ตั้งตัวหลังปลูกจนถึงฤดูฝน ความสะดวกใน การขนส่งต่าง ๆ และหาแรงงานได้ง่าย สิ่งสำคัญจะต้องหาวิธีการที่ดีในการเตรียมกล้าและปลูกให้ประสบความสำเร็จดียิ่ง คือกล้าไม้ควรเป็นกล้าค้างปีอายุประมาณ 16 เดือนก่อนนำไปปลูกจะฉีกเฉพาะก้นถุง ให้รากเจริญลงดินได้ขนาดหลุม 25X25X25 เซนติเมตร เมื่อปลูกแล้วพรวนดินกลบเป็น แอ่งเล็กน้อย ถ้าปลูกในทุ่งหญ้าคาในลักษณะ เจาะช่องปลูก จะได้ร่มเงารอบ ๆ แต่เมื่อถึงฤดูฝนต้องหญ้าออกทันที จากการทดลองปลูกไม้ประดู่วิธีนี้โดยไม่มีฝนตกเลย 32 วัน อัตรารอดตายเฉลี่ยประมาณร้อยละ 90 คือ ไม้ประดู่ สามารถทนแล้งได้ 1 เดือน และ ยังพบอีกว่า อัตรารอดตาย และการเจริญเติบโตไม่แตกต่างกับการปลูกในช่วงต้น และการเจริญเติบโตทั้งความสูงที่ดีกว่าถ้าไม่ใส่ปุ๋ยหรือใส่ปุ๋ยสูตรที่มีธาตุอาหารในธาตุหนึ่งไม่ครบ วิธีการใส่ปุ๋ยจะทำหลังปลูก 1 เดือน ในปริมาณ 50 กรัม ต่อต้น (1 ช้อนแกง) ใส่ดินลึกประมาณ 5 เซนติเมตร ประดู่เป็นพรรณไม้ยืนต้นขนาดใหญ่ มีลำต้นสูงประมาณ 25 เมตร ใบจะออกรวมกันเป็นช่อ ลักษณะของใบเป็นรูปมนรี ปลายใบแหลม ถ้าขึ้นในที่แล้งจะผลัดใบก่อนออกดอก ดอกออกเป็นช่อมีสีเหลืองสดลักษณะคล้ายดอกถั่ว โคนกลีบเลี้ยงกลีบดอกติดกันเป็นกรวยโค้งเล็กน้อย กลีบดอกมี 5 กลีบ มีขนาดดอกเล็ก ขณะดอกย่อยบานมีเส้นผ่านศูนย์กลางประมาร 0.5- 1 ซม. ดอกบานไม่พร้อมกัน มีกลิ่นหอมอ่อนๆ ดอกที่ใกล้โรยจะเปลี่ยนเป็นสีเหลืองอมน้ำตาล ฤดูดอกบานอยู่ในช่วง เดือนพฤษภาคมถึงสิงหาคม
ประดู่เป็นไม้กลางแจ้งต้องการแสงแดดจัด ความชื้นสูง ต้องการน้ำปานกลาง สามารถขึ้นได้ในดินทุกชนิด แต่จะให้ดีควรเป็นดินร่วนซุย
คนไทยโบราณเชื่อว่า บ้านใดปลูกต้นประดู่ไว้ประจำบ้านจะทำให้เกิดพลังแห่งความยิ่งใหญ่เพราะ ประดู่ คือ ความพร้อม ความร่วมือ ร่วมใจสามัคคี มีพลังเป็ฯอันหนึ่งอันเดียวกัน นอกจากนี้ดอกของประดู่ยังมีลักษณะที่ระดมกันบานเต็มต้นดูลานตา ดังนั้นคนโบราณจึงได้เลือกเอาต้นประดู่เป็นไม้ประจำกอง กองทัพเรือ และคนไทยโบราณยังเชื่ออีกว่า ส่วนของแก่นไม้ยังใช้เป็นศิลปะการดนตรี ที่สำคัญของคนพื้นเมืองในสมัยโบราณอีกด้วย คือใช้ทำเป็นเครื่องเสียงพวกระนาด นั่นก็หมายถึง ความแข็งแกร่ง แข็งแรง
